Episode Name: 3. NYC Then & Now

In this episode of Mothers & Daughters Unfiltered, hosts Diane Danvers Simmons and Natalie Simmons speak with mother and daughter, Ann Brown and Hailey Brown. The four women compare the mindsets and lifestyles living in New York in the late 80’s/ early 90’s versus today. Diane and Ann reminisce on when their friendship began at 26 when they both first moved to New York City. Diane from London and Ann from New Jersey, both empowered to take on the city with a love for the challenges that came along with it. The episode comes full circle as today, daughters, Natalie and Hailey are doing just the same. The women share that sentiment that, "if you can make it in New York, then you can make it anywhere." The mothers express their experiences in the neighborhoods they frequented, while the girls share popular activities that keep them sane in NYC today. Things get interesting when the group discusses how being busy has become social currency in NYC life, how this has evolved over time and the influence of technology on the phenomena. Diane and Ann believe busyness has affected the spontaneity of life, and as an example, Diane shares the story of her impromptu wedding. While New York is a place of infinite options and possibilities, the daughters state the difficulties of having too many choices. While these women compare their differing times in New York, they agree that social media, technology, and cultural influences have affected life in NYC today. At the end each woman shares one word which captures the essence of NYC for them.
